INTRODUCTION

Since its foundation in 1913, our association has successfully met the wide ranging requirements of government officials and private companies alike as an independent investigation institute concerned with protecting the public through inspection of marine and international cargoes.

We are now the sole inspection institute in Japan assigned to administer "inspection for stowage of dangerous goods on board the ship", "inspection for packing of dangerous goods in containers",and "inspection for stowage of ore concentrates on board the ship". Also, we are assigned by the Marine Safety Agency of Japan to perform preliminary checks of the processing of harmful liquid materials, based on the law for preventing marine pollution and marine disasters, and we have also been involved with design of the law for preventing marine pollution and marine disasters. We have also been designated, since 1994 as an official inspection institute by the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare, based on the "Food Sanitation Act". And, since 1996, we have been an official analytical institute registered with the Japanese Ministry of Industries and Trade, in accordance with the "petroleum quality control act". In performing all of these duties, we have received highly favorable evaluations.

Our mission is to contribute to the development of international trade, marine transportation, and harbor facilities, as well as to ensure food hygiene through our inspection activities. In addition, we are expanding our profit abilities in both international and domestic arenas by establishing and managing the branch bureau and also contributing as an expert for each committee of the international organization such as the International Marine Organization (IMO) and the International Standard Organization (ISO).

Today, due to the rapid spread of advancements in information technology, structural improvements are being promoted in every field on a global scale. The transportation system has also improved significantly. In order to respond to these changes, we identify our duty as that of an international institute offering complete inspections backed by highly advanced technology, and we continue to welcome the trust placed in the NKKK seal of approval.
